The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a remake of a roguelike action shooter game by its original author Edmund McMillen and Nilalis studio. In this 16-bit 3rd person shooter, you have to defeat thousands of Biblical monsters and horrible bosses to survive. You can download The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth for PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, PS Vita, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, and iOS.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth game visuals are very similar to the 16-bit retro style of the previous game. If you don't enjoy such kind of image, you can enable smoothing in settings to make the game look less edgy. Nilalis managed to create a remake that doesn't have any significant visual differences. It's the same top-down perspective game, but with enhanced resolution and better animation. The switch to the engine from Flash appeared to be a proper solution.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth gameplay consists of shootouts with various monsters in 2D rooms. You play Isaac and ten more unlockable characters. The plot follows the eponymous Biblical story. Isaac is a boy who lives peacefully with his mother, but one day, she loses her head on religious grounds. Soon, she locks the boy in his room to save him from the work of evil. She gets "holy" instructions to sacrifice Isaac, so he runs away from her to the basement through a trap door.
Roguelike dungeons are procedurally generated as you progress. Every level has a unique layout with a seed so that you could share it with friends who want to try the same dungeon. You can save the game anytime you want. Otherwise, you have to play levels from the very beginning of your character dies.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth multidirectional shooter game controls are rather simple. You have to move Isaac along the screen and turn him on his axis to aim and shoot. The only weapon you have is the character's tears. They fly slowly, so you have to be precise and try to create a bullet hell for enemies. For this The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth review, we tried playing with a gamepad and keyboard. Both inputs provide the same control level.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth full game run-through may take up to 3 hours. You can play different characters and upgrade them. No matter how many time you start the new game, it's always slightly different due to strong roguelike elements. Using map sharing, you can make your game even more exciting. Try to compete with friends to figure out who can complete a map faster.
The Bottom Line
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is an excellent cross-platform roguelike shooter with gameplay features from the classic game and numerous improvements.
