Sun Dogs Review: A Solar Journey of Humanity
Sun Dogs is a 2D space exploration game by Royal Polygon. In this game, you are supposed to travel through our solar system, read messages, complete missions, and more. Humanity has become aliens, and you have to figure things out. You can download Sun Dogs for Windows and Mac OS on Steam.
Sun Dogs game is not about beautiful visuals at all. It’s more about style and imagery. Amongst planets and stars with names written near them, you have to read the info to get the big picture in your head. You see the yellow circle of Venus? Be sure that it’s a densely populated planet with a capital city and huge political and economic powers. It goes to every space object you find, so the only way to know what’s going on is to read descriptions.
It’s rather difficult to make Sun Dogs review in a usual way because it’s a very specific modification of a text RPG game. You play as a human who is not entirely human. He/she can die along the way and turn into a new human or alien essence to continue the journey. Character’s body alters all the time along the way. The reason for such changes is common for humanity. Resettlement over planets of solar system requires people to alter themselves because it’s impossible to change the planets to make them similar to Earth. Bodies don’t mean anything anymore, because technology allows lossless mind transplantation.
Sun Dogs gameplay offers you to travel across the system to visit planets and other objects to learn info, pick up missions, and change your bodies. All events happen inside the text, so you have to read everything thoroughly to understand the causation.
Both Sun Dogs PC and Mac versions are entirely controlled by a mouse. You can also use the laptop touchpad. You’re not supposed to perform any quick actions. On the left side of the screen, you can see mind states, body commands, and available tools. On the right, you can find commands, such as log, upload, map, explore, take missions, read the info, and open options.
Replay Value: 4.5
Sun Dogs full game walkthrough may take around 3-4 hours. You’re free to complete objectives in any order and change the order of things differently, so there is sense to replay. On the other hand, a single walkthrough will be enough to reveal almost all fact about the universe.
The Bottom Line
Sun Dogs is an outstanding sci-fi visual novel with freedom of exploration. It’s like Mass Effect without shootouts. You can dive into the story by imagining pictures of new life forms and technologies. Moreover, you watch the solar system as if it was an ant farm. It’s like a God simulation.
Download Sun Dogs to experiment with the human body and mind, and visit all planets and other inhabited objects of our future solar system.
