Spintires is a game solely dedicated to the brutal Russian trucks and environment, especially mud. Tame those roaring metal beasts, do the objectives, fight the unmerciful climate of Siberia and just feel refreshed. Download Spintires to feel all that!
Spintires features a stunningly authentic Russian environment: log cabins, wild forests, grim landscape, and absolutely undefeatable mud. Even if you've never been to Siberia, you'll instantly identify it by this hardcore scenery.
Lighting is surprisingly well designed in Spintires. Sunny beams, that are rare guests in this cold and harsh, but beautiful place, never fail to catch your attention and give hope. Hope that the next portion of liquid dirt will go easy on your rear wheels.
Physics are the strongest part of the game. You can actually feel the weight and wobbliness of every truck you drive, depending on its size and engine power. Sometimes it feels like you're pulling a sinking hippo from the marsh, the other time you can tell that you're riding a 1 ton heavy buffalo made of steel.
Spintires doesn't have a rich variety of missions. Mostly you'll be delivering timber from A to B, beating the time-limited challenges or exploring the map, uncovering the dark spots.
But it's not about missions - it's all about trucks! Here you have thorough recreations of the legendary Russian beasts: GAZ-67B, ZIL, KAMAZ, MAZ, capable of carrying an ICBM, etc. You'll spot no differences between them and real-life prototypes.
There will be numerous barriers on your way to completing the objectives: puddles of mud, ponds, hills, logs, bumpy ground and so on. Here you'll have to rely solely on your mastery of your controller, because those cars aren't peaches and cream at all. Getting stuck every now and the isn't a rarity in Spintires. Should it happen to you, you can switch to the closest car and pull yourself out.
But if you're fearless, set the difficulty to Hard. There will be no route guide, and gasoline will be wasted much quicker.
Realistic physics, sadly, make the game controls feel pretty hard and treacherous. The bigger a truck is, the more bouncing and rattling there will be. Ultimately you'll get used to that, but piloting such a heavy, clumsy beast isn't the easiest thing to do.

Driving those trucks does feel ecstatic. Especially with such neatly designed physics and deafeningly roaring engines. But campaign mode lacks versatility and complexity so far. At least you can play in a co-op with three of your friends, to see who's the best at handling a 15-ton KAMAZ.
The Bottom Line
This Spintires review recommends the game to all the fans of heavy machinery and brutish Soviet aesthetics, reminiscent of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., etc. It has an excellent approach towards balancing physics, healthily challenging gameplay and scarily believable recreations of the Russian famous vehicles. And taming one of those is worth it.
