Professional Review

Minecraft: Story Mode is an episodic adventure game that is based on the renowned sandbox game series Minecraft. The game has been developed and published by Telltale games and Mojang.

Graphics: 4.5

The graphics of Minecraft: Story Mode is similar to that of Minecraft games. As mentioned earlier, you will witness sandbox graphics that render a 3D look to the characters and the surroundings. In addition to this, the developers have rendered perfection when it comes to implementation.

As the game is an episodic series, it is important to showcase the story in the most subtle manner. This is where synchronization of sound and visuals come into the foray. The production team did a commendable job in this segment.

Gameplay: 4.5

When you get the benefits of both gaming and a story, you just cannot ask for more. These both aspects are crucial in enhancing user engagement. If we talk about Minecraft: Story Mode, the game is successful in satisfying both the parameters. The gameplay revolves around a storyline. The player has to accomplish tasks as the story progresses.

There are a total of five episodes released with the initial launch of the game. Afterwards, three more episodes were available as downloadable content. The main character in the game, Jesse, is a new Minecraft player who is on a mission across the Overworld, and beyond, to find The Order of the Stone that comprises of Gabriel the Warrior, Ellegaard Redstone Engineer, Magnus the Rogue, and Soren the Architect. These are four legendary adventurers that once saved the Minecraft World from the clutches of the enemies. Players are intended to find collectibles, solve puzzles, converse with characters and surroundings to determine the next step in the story.

Controls: 4.5

Minecraft: Story Mode is more about the story rather than the game. Hence, you don’t need to control the game in a complex manner. As the engaging storyline makes you intrigued, you will automatically know what to accomplish in the game. All the tasks such as collecting items and fulfilling missions are based on the storyline. There are combat and action events that are dealt in a similar way as combat and action games are handled.

Replay Value: 4

The point-and-click adventure game is easy to comprehend. If you are here for the story, you will be engrossed for a longer period of time. But if you are solely here to experience sandbox gaming that you get with Minecraft, you might get disappointed. Hence, Minecraft: Story Mode holds significance for the story seekers rather than Minecraft game lovers. However, various game modes including combats, arcades, puzzles, and others might intrigue players.

At last, we can conclude that Minecraft: Story Mode is an excellent attempt by the Telltale Games to render a unique gaming experience to the gamers, both for the Minecraft fans and other users. The storyline, characterization, voice-over work, and humorous conversations are the highlight of the game. However, if we look solely from the gaming perspective, the game might not excite after a certain period of time.

Minecraft: Story Mode offers a perfect dose of an engaging storyline and sandbox adventure gaming.
