Mad Father is a 2D horror adventure game with survival elements by Sen and AGM Playism. You play a young girl, Aya, who reveals horrible dirty secrets about her father’s scientific research. You have to solve the problem with monsters that came to life and escape alive. To download Mad Father, visit the official page of the game on Steam marketplace.
Mad Father game looks typical for a game created in the RPG-Maker, but it’s very charming anyway. The whole story is told from the top-down perspective. When you have dialogues with characters, their high-quality images appear near with the subtitles. All characters are memorable and have their own unique style. There’s a lot of pixel art blood and gore, which looks absolutely fantastic too. Sen has a good taste for designing games in this genre.
Mad Father gameplay features walking around basements and secret rooms. Each room may contain a quest or an encounter with characters. Quests are generally straightforward and require you to press combinations of buttons in the correct order. There’s much more focus on the narrative. Everything goes in an unhurried manner, but the suspense is very intense.
You play the 11-year-old Aya, who suddenly figures out that her father is a mad scientist. He prepared a taxidermy operation to turn Aya into a doll and add her maimed body to his collection of dead children. You have to help her get through hordes of blood-starving monsters and get out of the mansion alive. You will also meet many people who will try to help you if you treat them right.
Mad Father full game is perfectly optimized for both gamepad and keyboard inputs. Problems with a controller may occur only in the main menu, so you have to use a keyboard or a mouse anyway. There are commands for walking, attacking, and interacting with objects. In some quests, you’re supposed to make quick-time combos to open doors, or break something.

We don’t want to include spoilers into this Mad Father review, but you have to know that there are 3 endings. You have to make different decisions to unlock them all. Each of them is very intriguing, so we wish you good luck in solving quests. If you get stuck, visit the Mad Father official wiki to get clues.
The Bottom Line
Mad Father is one of the best RPG Maker adventures on Steam so far. It has cool retro graphics, matching soundtrack, thoughtful dialogues, and a branched storyline. This franchise really deserves a sequel to reveal more detail and give us a more exciting experience. It’s a hard task to create a worthy horror, but Sen managed to complete it well.
