Machinarium Review: The Most Charming Robot Quest Ever
Machinarium is a legendary multiplatform point-and-click adventure game developed and published by a small Polish studio Amanita Design. You play as a little robot Jozef. He occasionally witnesses the plan of the Black Cap Brotherhood and decides to prevent the explosion of the Machinarium city. You can download Machinarium for PS3, PS Vita, Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Nintendo Switch.
The whole Machinarium game is hand-drawn by Jakub Dvorsky, one of the most talented indie game designers. You can call Machinarium a graphic novel, and you will be right because all scenes are drawn by hand and animated in Adobe Flash. This approach allowed developers to create a previously unseen setting.
Machinarium gameplay consists of traditional puzzles. You have to collect various items and figure out how to combine and apply them properly. There is no main principle in solving puzzles; you just always should build on the current circumstances.
There are no spoken or written dialogues and instructions in the game. All communication is conducted via animated dialogue bubbles. Generally, all information is presented not in a straight manner, but as cues and references. If you find a task too difficult, you can always read the walkthrough guide in the main menu.
However, it shows solutions only for current tasks, and you can access the information after playing a mini-game. The revealed guide doesn’t include words as well. It provides you only with animated episodes of what to do in the area you are.
The plot tells the story of Jozef the robot. City guards had thrown it off the city directly to the scrapyard. It manages to reassemble and decide to save its home, his friends, and his love Berta from evil plans of the Black Cap Brotherhood. Bad guys want to construct an atomic bomb and activate it right on the tower of their Head, the huge brain that powers Machinarium.
Machinarium point-and-click game is perfectly adapted for all types of input. The most convenient platform is a desktop computer and touchscreen as you can select objects quickly. The gamepad layout requires you to control the cursor with the left stick, which is slightly less precise.

Machinarium full game walkthrough takes about 4 hours. The story is completely linear and includes only one difficulty level, but it’s so charming that you are likely to pass the game several times. The quality of this experience is comparable to a great movie or a book.
This Machinarium review could be much longer, but there’s no need to go into extra detail as you can play it yourself! This game is created by incredibly talented indie game designers, so it’s impossible to percept it like a regular game. It’s a combination of beautiful drawings connected by a story told with emotions, references, and allusions.
