Little Nightmares is a platform horror quest game by Swedish Tarsier Studios. You play as a little girl named Six. She finds herself in a nightmarish underwater ship called Maw, where she suffers from severe hunger. Help Six to survive hunger attacks and hide from horrible monsters to escape the Mow. You can download Little Nightmares for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Little Nightmares game is powered by the Unreal Engine 4 that allowed developers to create almost tangible locations and monsters. Though the game is surrealistic, the quality of camerawork and level-design makes it incredibly realistic and plausible. Design of creatures is free of western horror cliches. The design of beasts was inspired by Japanese horror movies and anime.
Little Nightmares gameplay combines elements of a side-scrolling platformer and a 3D room quest. The range of actions that you can do is not very big. You can run to get away from chasers, sneak to become silent and climb up various objects, such as boxes and shelves. Six also has a lighter to pass dark corridors and light oil lamps. There’s also a very cute option to hug little Nomes.
The plot doesn’t tell you anything about the origins of the main heroine. You can only suppose that she is actually a defective part of the hellish ship. Her name might refer to the 6th deadly sin, Gluttony. She often suffers from bad hunger attacks, but avoids eating the food of the guests, preferring leftovers.
Your main purpose is to help Six to get through multiple decks of the ship to reach the guest chamber. There he has to escape from hungry fat zombie-like visitors of the feast and get into the dwelling of the ship mistress. This mage geisha has a secret fear that you have to guess to defeat her and devour her dark magical powers.
Little Nightmares review test of console and computer controls showed that both inputs are well-optimized and responsive. However, a gamepad is a more traditional tool for playing platformers. Fortunately, you are allowed to use PC-compatible controllers.
Replay Value: 4.5
Little Nightmares full game is concise and totally linear. These facts don’t make it less valuable for the horror industry, but there is actually no use to play the game more than 1 time. Luckily, developers published 3 DLC levels that tell a parallel story of the Runaway Kid. These episodes provide a more detailed look at the life of the Mow.
Little Nightmares is a unique horror franchise that presents a sophisticated interpretation of Japanese horror stories and common childhood fears. It’s not an average happy-end story as you can’t even figure out the true motives of the heroine. It’s a dark story of a lilliput girl with a dark past and unclear future. It makes you think about many things in attempts to find answers, but there is no way out of the nightmare. You have to accept it.
Download Little Nightmares to experience one of the most unusual and artistic horror games ever.
